About the role 

As the PBL Learning Leader you are responsible for overseeing the successful and smooth academic planning and delivery of our PBL (Project-Based Learning) courses for international students in London. This role would be ideally suited to an educator with a good understanding of PBL pedagogy, or an experienced facilitator of group projects with young people.

You will take a leading role in guiding tutors and teaching assistants to facilitate projects that are academically challenging, develop 21st century skills and provide insights into students’ chosen industries.  Prior to the course, you will work alongside the head office academic team to develop teaching and planning resources. This includes training materials, and helping each subject tutor to create a PBL syllabus that centres around our London-based themes and incorporates suitable visits.

During the courses you will oversee the delivery and quality assurance of the academic programme. You will be supporting Oxford Summer Courses’ teaching staff, liaising with the course director and ensuring the effective and enthusiastic delivery of whole-group sessions.

Main duties 

  • Contributing to pre-course training and resources for tutors and teaching assistants
  • Working with tutors to support their syllabus development and lesson planning in accordance with the programme outline
  • Promoting project-based methods amongst tutors, teaching assistants and students to ensure their experience is a positive and memorable one
  • Overseeing the running of all academic aspects of the course including as the lead facilitator for whole-group events
  • Managing day-to-day relations with tutors and teaching assistants
  • Carrying out classroom observations in accordance with the agreed framework and giving feedback as appropriate

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years’ classroom experience
  • Familiarity with project-based learning as a teaching method
  • Awareness of the learning needs of international students
  • Experience undertaking teaching observations
  • Constructive and encouraging approach to giving feedback
  • Commitment to the professional development of others

Practical details 

  • Pay: £700 per week full-time equivalent
  • Equivalent of 3 weeks’ flexible remote work between March/April and June, and 1 week post course delivery including scheduled meetings, training and post-course handover
  • Full time Monday to Friday between 21st June and 7th August
  • Location: central London
  • This is a non-residential role
  • Fixed-term consultancy contract
  • Right to work in the UK is an essential prerequisite (we cannot sponsor work visas)
